CONSTRUCTION is underway on a new storage facility for Grosvenor Garden Centre after the previous building was destroyed by fire almost two years ago.

The shocking incident, which took place in the early hours of June 14, 2022, saw a large-scale emergency response.

At its peak, the fire was attended by five fire crews; two from Chester, one from Powey Lane, one from Ellesmere Port and one from Malpas, together with an aerial appliance from Chester.

The fire did not affect the main garden centre building and thankfully there were no casualties, however it did see the warehouse building, and as a result a large volume of the garden centre’s stock, ruined.

The centre and its restaurant were closed, and nearby residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution due to the levels of smoke coming from the building blaze.

Plans were first launched in February last year to replace the storage building with a new structure on the same footprint as the original.

These were approved by the Council’s Planning Committee in August and a large metal frame is now visible as the centre begins construction on the new building.

The new facility will mean 441.9 sq. m. of storage space for the garden centre.
