A WOMAN has been banned from the roads for three years after being caught four times the drink-drive limit.

Uniformed police officers spotted Rhian Oakes’ black Citroen C1 weaving, narrowly missing the kerb, and drifting over the white line in St Johns Drive, Winsford, on January 17.

They pulled her over as she turned into Cambridge Avenue, the street on which she lives, where the officers said they could smell alcohol on her breath.

The 58-year-old also appeared confused and was slurring her words.

She was breathalysed at the roadside and gave a reading of 139 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

She was arrested and breathalysed again at the custody suite where an evidential breath sample of 140 micrograms was recorded, exactly four times the legal limit.

Oakes, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to drink driving on Tuesday, February 13, and appeared before Chester magistrates for sentencing on Tuesday, March 12.

Defending, Wendy Shurrocks asked the bench to give due consideration to Oakes’ detailed pre-sentence report, which recommended she be dealt with in the community.

Magistrates agreed, and handed her a 12-month community order, which includes a six-month alcohol treatment programme, 20 rehabilitation activity days, and 150 hours unpaid work.

They banned her from driving for 36 months, which will be reduced by a quarter if she completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course by May 2026.

She must also pay prosecution costs and a victim surcharge, totalling £238.
