A PERSON has sadly died in an incident on the railway in Cheshire. 

The news was confirmed this afternoon, Monday, following the emergency incident on the tracks yesterday evening, Sunday between Widnes and Warrington.

Officers from British Transport Police, along with paramedics from North West Ambulance Service and crews from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the vicinity of Hough Green station at around 6.15pm.

Sadly however, it has been confirmed that a man died as a casualty on the railway.

The emergency incident led to the cancellation of services between Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway for a number of hours.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Hough Green railway station just after 6.15pm last night, Sunday, March 10.

“This was following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics and the fire service also attended, however sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

The force did not confirm the approximate age of the deceased.

Disruption was caused to Northern, TransPennine Express and East Midlands Railway services while emergency services were in attendance.
