Playtime for youngsters at a Chester school has received a big boost thanks to dedicated local community fundraising efforts.

Cherry Grove Primary School in Boughton has made improvements to existing play equipment at the school grounds a top priority.

And thanks to the hard work of the school's PTA, plus a generous donation from the Co-op at Boughton, new equipment has been installed for all children at the school to use and enjoy.

Beth Hacking, who was named The Chester Standard’s Headteacher of the Year 2023 in last year's Education Awards, said: "As a UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting School, enhancing effective play for the children at Cherry Grove Primary School is one of our highest priorities as all children have a 'Right to play'.

"We've listened to our pupils and have featured 'Making playtimes even better' as our Pupil Priority within our School Development Plan.

"We would like to thank our fantastic and dynamic School PTA who have run numerous events to raise £3,500 towards this new play equipment, and the local Co-op who have also donated £150 towards it from their community funding programme.

"The new equipment has made a huge impact on playtime for all the children from our youngest (age 4) to our eldest (age 11) who all love to play on it. Our next project is to raise funds to improve the play equipment on our fantastic school field."
