SEASON-best performances were achieved by some Warrington Athletics Club runners when representing Cheshire in the Inter County Cross Country Championships on a Nottingham course that was shorter than it was supposed to be.

It was most evident that the course distances at Wollaton Park were not correct when the winner of the senior men’s race over an undulating grass course that was supposedly 10km ran a time 10 seconds faster than Mo Farah’s UK record for the same distance on the track.

In the under 13s age group, Oliver Davenport produced his best run at this level to lead the Cheshire team home finishing in 13th place.

Euan Lawton was 225th and in the girls race in the same age group Annie Noone made her debut at this level, finishing 270th as fourth counter for the Cheshire team.

Orla Gregory had her best run this season to finish in 40th place as first Cheshire counter in the under 20s women’s event, while Joy Ashcroft-Carter finished 159th.

In the under 15s girls, Sinead Gregory had her best run of the season finishing in 172nd place and Emily Kinsey was 190th to be second and fourth counters of the team respecitvely.

Cara Gregory was 228th despite being under the weather and Sarah Ashcroft finished 265th.

Imogen Wharton was 56th in the under 17s women’s race and second counter for the team, while Hannah Hull finished 145th and in the men’s race in the same age group Alex Rix was 192nd.

In the senior women’s race Claire Andrew crossed the line 135th and was third counter for the team, while Georgina Walker placed 224th.

The day was brought to a close by the senior men’s race in which Jack Wadsworth was 214th.

Meanwhile, two Warrington AC masters runners took part in the Chester 10K road race with Louise Blizzard being first to finish in 238th place overall in 42mins 25secs, placing her 31st woman and third woman over 45.

This performance should see Louise selected to run for England Masters at the Great Birmingham 10K on May 5.

Mervyn Ward registered 627th place in 47mins 33secs2, placing him 12th in the over 65s age group for men.
