FLOOD alerts have been issued for Chester and surrounding areas from around midday (Monday, March 11).

A high tide forecast has prompted the alert, with flooding possible at low lying land and roads around the Dee Estuary from 12.30pm.

Areas at risk include Parkgate, Neston and Puddington, Blacon and Saltney, and Chester.

The Environment Agency say that there is likely to be some water on The Groves, although no flooding is expected to affect properties.

A separate alert is also in place for the Mersey Estuary, which is likely to affect areas of Ellesmere Port between Stanlow and Elton.

Higher than normal tides are expected over the next three days, with further Flood Alerts a possibility.

The government website states: “We do not currently anticipate the Flood Alert level to be met during the high tide in the early hours of tomorrow morning 12/03/2024.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updated messaging during this period of high tides.

“Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”

Further updates will be issued from 6pm this evening, or as the situation changes.
