The hand of friendship was once again extended when Petra Bannasch, cultural officer of Reutlingen, Germany was welcomed to Ellesmere Port.

Speeches were made by the Mayor, Cllr Gareth Gould, and Tony Cioma MBE in the Civic Centre last Friday.

In her reply, Petra extolled the benefits of the long friendship between the towns.

The towns were first twinned in 1966 but the funding ceased when the new borough came in to being. A new initiative came in to being when Tony Cioma MBE (retired Commander, Sea Cadets) and Tony Sherlock (former Town Mayor) formed a new Friendship Group.

The Civic Hall meeting was well attended with people reminiscing over all the cultural visits the residents of Ellesmere Port had to the German town over the years and Petra chatted to various people over a nice buffet and a glass of wine.
