A GIRLS’ football team from Chester are set to hold a car boot sale fundraiser as they look to continue raising money for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Madrid.

The Chester Nomads Zebras U11s team are hoping to train with some of the finest youth coaches in Europe when they meet with Real and Atletico Madrid in October, together with games against local opposition, and tours of both stadiums.

The car boot sale is the latest in a series of fundraising events which have included climbing Moel Famau in fancy dress and packing bags at Morrisons in Chester.

The team are hoping to raise £11,000 in order to take the pressure off parents and carers and have currently raise just under a quarter of that target.

The Zebras have also recently secured a £150 community grant award from Co-op to go towards the fund.

The car boot sale will take place at The Centurion pub on Oldfield Drive in Vicars Cross on Sunday, March 24 from 12pm onwards.

There will be a cake sale, popcorn, arts and crafts, a tombola, various games including ‘hook a duck’ and ‘guess how many sweets are in the jar’, and a raffle.

For those who would like to get involved, pitches at the car boot sale are £10 with all of the money from pitches going to the Madrid fund.

Speaking to the Standard last month, Coach Clive Probyn said: “The opportunity is unbelievable, to have the chance to do something like this.

“It’s massive for girls’ football in the town, we want to promote that and for other girls to know that they can get to this level too.”
