A HISTORIC country pub is up for sale in Cheshire West.

The Bull in Shocklach near Malpas, which is believed to date back to around 1850, is currently on the market with Admiral Taverns for £395,000 plus VAT.

Admiral Taverns is the UK’s leading community pub group, headquartered in Chester, it runs over 1,600 predominantly wet-led community pubs.

A characterful rural pub, the Bull features a large open plan bar area with horseshoe bar, traditional wooden furniture, vaulted ceilings, two feature fireplaces, an attractive patchwork floor of hand painted tiles and part wooden flooring.

The pub has a commercial kitchen with space for around 44 covers inside, split between the ‘Long Room’ and the rear conservatory. The Bull also sits on a plot of 0.37 acres and features a 24-space car park and lawned beer garden.

The domestic accommodation is located over the first floor and briefly comprises a lounge, domestic kitchen-diner, bedroom, office/second bedroom, box room and bathroom.

Asset of Community Value

The Bull closed in 2023 and had initially been up for sale for £425,000 during the summer. The Shocklach and nearby Chorlton community and the local parish council had been keen to see the venue reopened.

Shocklach Oviatt and District Parish Council applied to have the popular venue reinstated as an Asset of Community Value (ACV), which was rubber stamped in August last year.

The ACV status meant that a six-week moratorium was put in place when Admiral Taverns decided to sell The Bull, to allow any interested community groups to come forward and be considered as a potential bidder.

An interested group came forward, meaning the six-week moratorium was extended to six months (this period ended on Thursday, February 23).

It is not yet known whether the interested group is proceeding with the sale.
