A FLOOD alert has been put in place today (Friday, February 9) for the River Dee catchment including Chester and surrounding areas.
River levels on the Dee are currently high due to recent heavy rainfall with further rainfall forecast throughout the day. Although these showers are expected to be lighter.
The Environment Agency says areas most at risk include low lying land and roads around the River Dee at Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington.
Townfield Lane is expected to be cut off.
People in the affected areas are being advised to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and to not attempt to walk or drive through any flood water.
The Environment Agency say that the situation is being closely monitored and further updates will be made on or before Saturday, February 10.
