LONG delays are building on the M56 motorway near Frodsham and Helsby this evening due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Traffic has been stopped on the westbound carriageway between junctions 12 (Runcorn) and 14 (Elton/Chester Services) following the incident.

Emergency services have been deployed to the incident, with vehicles involved moved to the hard shoulder and teams working to remove debris from the collision.

National Highways North West is advising motorists to expect delays, with a reported six miles of congestion.

Congestion is building back beyond Preston Brook on the westbound carriageway, and there is heavy traffic stretching back towards Junction 15 (M53 Interchange) on the eastbound carriageway.
