THERE was an unusual reason why the New Chester Market had to be evacuated on Saturday, January 27.

Emergency services were deployed to the market after reports of customers being affected by fumes shortly after noon.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service discovered the cause was "due to cooking a large amount of chillies".

The fire service added there are no wider public health concerns.

The market was temporaily closed as emergency services looked to reopen it as soon as possible.
