EMERGENCY teams had to be called out after a horse fell into a ditch in Chester.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident in Seahill Road, Saughall, at 4.12pm on Tuesday, January 23.

Two fire engines from Powey Lane and Lymm, the rope rescue unit for Lymm and the rapid response unit from Bollington were deployed to come to the aid of the stricken 28-year-old mare.

The horse had become stuck in water in a ditch. Crews removed the horse from the ditch, setting it free to be assessed by an attending vet.

After being given a check-up, the horse handed back into the care of its owner and was doing well after her ordeal.
