THE Environment Agency have provided an update after the River Dee was judged to have reached the flood alert level at Farndon yesterday.

As reported by the Standard, a flood alert is currently in place for the River Dee catchment, which includes areas around Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington.

The Dee's levels have risen significantly after periods of heavy rain as a result of Storm Isha. Whilst the rain is forecast to subside later in the week, the onset of Storm Jocelyn looks set to add to the problem over the next 24 hours.

The Environment Agency said: "Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days and we expect river levels to remain high. Townfield Lane is expected to be cut from this evening (23/01/2024).

"Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary.

"Please be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation. This message will be updated by 10:30 tomorrow, 24/01/2024, or as the situation changes."

Storm Jocelyn is also expected to bring with it high wind speeds, with some areas of Cheshire West expected to see gusts of up to 50mph.

A Yellow warning is currently in place for wind across the borough until Wednesday (January 24), with wind speeds expected to return to normal around midday.
