A YELLOW warning for wind is still in place for areas of Cheshire West with Storm Jocelyn set to impact the UK over the next 24 hours.

A broad Yellow warning for wind has already been issued for much of the Midlands, the North West and North East of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, in the wake of Storm Isha, however Storm Jocelyn is likely to exacerbate these conditions.

The brunt of the storm will be felt from this afternoon (Tuesday, January 23) and into the evening, with wind speeds of up to 50mph possible for areas of Cheshire West.

Rising wind speeds

Wind speeds will increase across Chester, Ellesmere Port and other nearby areas from around 4pm today onwards.

These speeds are set to peak at around 6pm, and will remain in the high forties throughout the evening and into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Met Office has warned people that closure of some roads and bridges are possible and to be careful of fallen trees or other debris whilst travelling.

Some damage to building is also possible, as well as power cuts and mobile phone coverage issues.

Longer journey times and cancellations are also possible on road, rail, air and ferry services.

Wind speeds are expected to return to normal levels from around midday on Wednesday.

The heavy rain which has been a feature of the past few days is also forecast to subside from this evening. Drier conditions are expected from tomorrow onwards, but showers remain a possibility.

A flood alert remains in place for the River Dee catchment and areas - such as Townfield Lane - may already be flooded due to rain from the earlier Storm Isha.

This alert covers the likes of: Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington.
