A FLOOD alert has been issued for the River Dee catchment, with river levels expected to continue to rise over the next few days.

Heavy rain and high wind speeds courtesy of Storm Isha have battered the UK over the last 24 hours, with further rain forecast to hit Chester over the coming days.

The flood alert for the Dee catchment covers areas around Schocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington.

The Environment Agency said: "The River Dee at Farndon has now reached the flood alert level. We expect the river to keep rising over the next few days as it responds to incoming rainfall.

"Townfield Lane is expected to be cut off this evening. We currently expect the river to peak on Wednesday 24th January 2024, and are not currently forecasting Flood Warning level to be reached."

Chester and surrounding areas have also been given a Yellow warning for wind, which is currently in place until Wednesday (January 24).

Showers are forecast throughout the afternoon today (Monday, January 22), with heavy rain expected from around 9am tomorrow until around 4pm, before it becomes drier towards the end of the week.

A flood alert is the lowest level of warning, however Government advice specifies to prepare a bag with essential medicines and insurance documents and to continue to check flood warnings regularly.
