A FLOOD alert remains in place for parts of Chester but river levels are now falling after the recent heavy rain, the Met Office has confirmed.

While the amber flood alert is still there for areas close to the River Dee, around Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington, the potential for flooding is easing.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "River levels are still high on the River Dee but are continuing to fall.

"Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water."

The Met Office says this message will be updated as the situation changes.

Met Office guidance states that a flood alert means you need to prepare as flooding is possible.
