A FLOOD alert is in place for areas of Ellesmere Port and Frodsham.

The Met Office has issued an amber alert for catchment areas of the River Gowy due to heavy rainfall increasing river levels.

Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Gowy, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around low lying land and roads around the River Milton and Hornsmill / Hool, Stanney Mill and Thornton Brooks and their tributaries.

According to the Met Office, flooding is possible at low lying land and roads around the River Milton and Hornsmill / Hool, Stanney Mill and Thornton Brooks and their tributaries.

A Met Office spokesman said: “We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert/warning if necessary.”
