A FLOOD alert remains in place for Chester and surrounding areas, although it is not expected to become a flood warning.

Gov.uk has maintained its flood alert - the lowest threat level - for the River Dee catchment, which covers areas around Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington.

As of today (Tuesday, January 2) the Government website advises that more rain is forecast, however "[they] are not expecting to reach flood warning."

As before, flooding remains a possibility on low lying land and roads, and Townfield Lane remains cut off.

River levels on the Dee are expected to remain high for the next few days.

Forecasts will continue to be monitored with a re-issue of the alert to be provided if necessary.

A Yellow warning for rain is also in place for Chester, Ellesmere Port and several nearby areas.

The Met Office say that heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption.

Spray and flooding on roads could elongate journey times, with bus and train services also likely to be affected.

Flooding of homes and businesses is possible, together with interruption to power supplies and other services.
