THE popular MBNA Chester Marathon is in the running for a prestigious national award.

The scenic race which passes the Town Hall, Cathedral, the Rows, and Roman Walls before heading into the Cheshire countryside via the Old Dee Bridge is in contention for the National Running Show's Running Event of the Year.

Joint Race Organiser Chris Hulse, said: "We have just heard that our marathon has been shortlisted for the National Running Show’s Running Event of the Year.

"Whilst in 2018 we picked up first prize for the UK’s best Marathon, to be regarded as the top event overall for 2023 would be fabulous!"

"We put on our events for first time runners, seasoned runners, elites and everyone in-between to help enable people to achieve something they didn’t think was possible. These awards come from the runners themselves which makes it extra special for us."

Runners can show their support for the event by voting on the National Running Show website. Voting is open until January 3, 2024.

Joint Race Organiser Andy White: "The MBNA Chester Marathon is a renowned, mighty and well-loved event but we are going up against some bigger events – so we really need everyone who enjoys running, watching, supporting or volunteering at our event to vote for us!"
