ONE of the area's oldest and most popular pubs has new managers.

When Bob Muir and Callum Kee-McParlin were given the opportunity to take on The Tap in Eastham it was one too good to let pass by.

They signed their five year agreement last Wednesday (December 13).

Bob, the chef in The Bear Pit Café, located at the rear of the pub, and Callum, a barman at the pub, understand that The Tap has a lot of history over the last couple of centuries.

The venue is currently very popular with motorcyclists and dog walkers and although Bob and Callum are keen to continue welcoming both, but they want to let people know that The Tap is not just a bikers' pub but open to anyone and everyone.

Bob said: "You will always be welcome here. Our moto is 'there's always a warm welcome at The Tap'.

Bob is originally from Garston and a keen motorcyclist and Callum is a musician from Eastham.

Callum said: “It’s the community and visitors to the pub. We love our job, we love entertaining our clientele, we love the bikes and we love hosting.

"The banter with customers and the dogs that come in are probably the best thing about this pub. It really feels like home."

Whilst keeping one of the oldest pubs in Wirral the iconic place it is, Bob and Callum’s ambition is to uphold "the authenticity of the pub" and tastefully improve its interior and exterior décor.

They will also host jam nights for artists, pub quizzes every month and continue to introduce live music every week.

Bob and Callum say their aim is to appeal to the European biking community and promote The Tap around the Wirral peninsular, Liverpool, Wales and Cheshire.

Bob has many years as an experienced chef, serving in the army and has 20 years' of hospitality experience. Callum originally from a sound post-production background has had seven years' experience working in hospitality.

Reflecting on what creates The Tap's special atmosphere, Callum said "It's the customers that come here that make the place what it is.

"Whether they have visited on a motorbike or a scooter, walking their dog or come from a far. Everyone has a story and interests.

"And that is what we like, the banter and their overall experience of coming to the pub. It’s very rewarding.

"But most importantly we would not be able to run a popular pub if it wasn’t for our proficient team, Louise, Chloe, Wendy, Sarah, Jake and Charlie

"We have lots of plans for our five year stint at The Tap, but we don’t want to reveal too much because we want people to come back wanting more .. and we have more to give."

Each day Callum updates the social media pages and constantly lets customers online and offline know what is happening in the weeks and months to come.

They promise not to disappoint and are always looking for ways to increase the clientele and accommodate new visitors to the pub months to come.
