THE M56 was closed last night (Tuesday, December 5) after there were concerns for a man's welfare.
Police were initially called to reports of a man standing on a bridge over the motorway near Frodsham, at around 5.10pm.
Officers attended the scene and the M56 was closed as a precautionary measure between junction 12 (Elton) and junction 14 (Runcorn).
Police engaged with the man, who was taken to a place of safety. The road reopened at around 6pm.
