A GROUP of Travellers have been served a court summons after failing to leave Council-owned land in Chester.

An unauthorised encampment including two caravans has been in place at Boughton Heath Park and Ride carpark since Friday, November 17.

The group were initially ordered to leave via a section 77 notice, served on Wednesday, November 21 following a review of the site by an officer from the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team (CWTT).

A section 77 notice is a directive for individuals to remove vehicles and belongings from a site which they have occupied without the owner's consent, failure to do so is considered a criminal offence. The Council then indicated that a court order was being sought.

As of this afternoon (Tuesday, November 28) the group have been served a summons instructing them to appear at Magistrates' Court.
