A DEESIDE-based sustainable construction innovator has announced an extended partnership with a national infrastructure contractor, to install its revolutionary recycled plastic kerbing solution, on local highways in the Chester and Cheshire West region.

The collaboration between Dura Products and Colas Ltd comes after a mandate from the government which states all regional public governing bodies, such as National Highways and local authorities, must boost construction sustainability principles.

By partnering with Dura Products, Colas will be able to move towards reducing embodied carbon and energy use during installation processes while increasing the environmental benefits for its local construction projects.

Durakerb offers a lightweight solution to kerbing, delivering a greener, safer and faster installation process. Made from 88% recycled polymers, the 6kg units can be reclaimed, reused, and recycled after use, allowing for circularity and lasting positive effects on the environment. The benefits unlocked by Colas have included increased productivity, facilitated pre-assembly, demonstrated innovation, and mitigated safety and environmental risks. Dura Products operates from its head office based in Deeside. Its products - including Durakerb - are manufactured both in the UK as well as mainland Europe.

The adoption of Durakerb by Colas comes following the continuing development and improvement of 1100 series standards (BS-EN1340) specification for highways works. The changes made aim to predominantly reduce product lifecycle environmental impacts, whilst aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2050. First and foremost, all construction solutions installed must promote effective convenience while addressing environmental concerns.

Steve Bennett, managing director at Dura Products said: "We are delighted to build on our previous partnership with Colas to include local projects in the Chester and Cheshire West region.

"Dura Products previously supplied Durakerb units to Colas projects, including the A191 Silverlink and over two kilometres of Duradrain and Durachannel to the recently constructed A46 Stoneleigh Junctions in Coventry.

"We are very much looking forward to working with the team again on this exciting project to improve the roads in the North West."
