A SERIAL shoplifter who stole over £1,000 of items from Chester's Boots store was also found with a knife and cannabis in Warrington.

Stephen Sanderson, 44, of Brook Street, Chester, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, November 17, where he admitted all charges and was sentenced to a total of 42 weeks in prison.

The court heard Sanderson had stolen £373.88 of candles from Boots in Foregate Street on June 3, stealing a further £241 of candles from Boots on June 17.

Sanderson returned to the Boots shop on November 13 to steal £336 of toiletries, before stealing £241 of toiletries the following day.

Sanderson was then seen in Warrington on November 15 in possession of a kitchen knife and a quantity of cannabis.

Magistrates noted Sanderson's "appalling record" and that he was known to probation, so could be sentenced without adjourning for a pre-sentence report.

His guilty pleas were taken into account as he was jailed for 26 weeks for possessing a knife, plus eight weeks for the June shoplifting offences, plus eight weeks for the November shoplifting offences.

The cannabis was to be forfeited and destroyed, and the knife was to be deprived.
