CHESHIRE-based rising star Luke Browning is celebrating the biggest win of his racing career to date.

The racer secured a stunning victory in the 70th running of the Macau Grand Prix.

Luke, from Kingsley, near Frodsham, made the trip to the famous Chinese circuit just weeks after enjoying his first taste of Formula 1 machinery, with a day on track at Silverstone being part of his prize for winning the 2022 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year award.

Competing with the same Hitech Pulse-Eight team that had carried him to the 2022 GB3 title, and which had been the driving force behind his graduation to the FIA Formula 3 Championship, Luke was on the pace from the moment he hit the track for the opening practice session of the weekend.

Luke’s win - a record-extending 15th by drivers from the UK - sees him join an impressive list of drivers to have taken victory in the event, including multiple F1 champions Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

"Words can’t describe the way I’m feeling," he said.

"The standard of the grid here is incredible, and to win against this level of opposition is just amazing. The car has been phenomenal from the moment we hit the track on Thursday and hats off to everyone in the Hitech team as it’s been a pleasure to drive.

"This is the kind of circuit where you need to have confidence behind the wheel and need to have the right car, and that is exactly what I was given.

“I knew I had to take advantage of it and alongside winning the Autosport Award last year, this is the biggest achievement of my career.

"To see my name up there alongside people like Senna and Schumacher as a Macau GP winner is something you dream of as a young driver, and something that is very humbling.

“I know that I am very lucky to be here with my background as I don’t come from a rich family, and to beat some of the best young drivers in the world in the biggest F3 race on the calendar is beyond my wildest dreams."
