A TRAVEL enthusiast got a behind-the-scenes look at Airbus' Beluga XL at Broughton.

Nicky Kelvin from The Points Guy, an American travel website and blog, was invited to the Flintshire site for a fascinating insight into the iconic transporter plane.

In the video, there is a brief overview of the history of Airbus' wing transporter aircraft before there is an appearance from Paul Kilmister, Airbus UK's head of supply chain.

He explains that a Beluga XL named Lemur India will be flying into Broughton to collect a couple of Airbus A330 wings.

The viewer then joins a worker tasked with towing the Beluga into the hanger using a tug - a specially designed car.

The viewer is then treated to seeing how the wings are placed onto the aircraft - to be transported to Bremen in Germany.

Mr Kilmister reveals that the Beluga XL's front opening door is 7.5m by 8.5m, and that the aircraft can be back in the air 60 minutes after landing.

"We're really proud of the turn time here in Broughton," he says.

Nicky is treated to a sneek-peak inside the cockpit of the XL - and speaks to a couple of the pilots.

Finally, the wings get transported on and there is a perspective from inside the aircraft as its doors close.
