ELLESMERE PORT welcomed hundreds of comic, anime and Halloween fans as special guest stars appeared for Comic Con.

The third such event to be held in the town was free to attend, hosted in Ellesmere Port Market on Saturday, October 28.

The fact the free event was held in the Flea Market area of the market did not deter an appearance from CBBC's Hacker the Dog (ably assisted by Phil Fletcher), while actors Simon Fisher Becker (Doctor Who, Harry Potter) and Clem So (Doctor Who, Star Wars, James Bond, Detective Pikachu and more) also greeted guests.

A host of characters met fans during the day including Sonic, Tails, Pikachu, Olaf, Mario and Yoshi, plus – in time for Halloween – Billy from the Saw films.

In the Cosplay Competition, there was a wide range of spectacular costumes ranging from anime characters to Spiderman and Captain America and for Halloween there were a few Wednesday Addams lookalikes, a vampire and a witch.

Crewe-based author Sue Eaton, a horror and science fiction fan, was signing copies of her first book ‘The Woman Who Was Not His Wife’ and her latest, ‘The Ceres Illusion’.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation said: “Three successful comic cons this year have brought a great space in Ellesmere Port Market to life and showed off its potential.

"The transformation of Ellesmere Port Market includes plans for investment in the market hall and the flea market, and displays will be in the market later this week so visitors can see the concepts for themselves.”

The plans will improve the appearance and thermal efficiency of the market hall, support local market traders and help future-proof Ellesmere Port Market.

There are still a few more events taking place in the flea market this year. First up is the Memory Fairs Return (Craft & Gift Event) on Saturday, November 11, then a Christmas Market on December 9 and 16 (10am to 4pm). Santa’s Grotto will be on December 9, 16 and 17 in the Indoor Market. The Flea Market is on Sunday, Monday and Thursday between 8am and 2pm.

Ellesmere Port Market is booking events up to March 2024, after which upgrade works will start.
