MERSEYTRAVEL has confirmed that Queensway Tunnel will be closed this weekend.
On June 5, an 18-month lighting upgrade began on the tunnel. The existing lighting throughout the two-mile tunnel is being replaced by an energy-efficient LED system, with a lifespan of 25 years.
The upgrade has meant there has been overnight closures of the tunnel every night between 9pm and 6.30am, seven nights a week.
The overnight closures are expected to be in place for around 18 months.
As part of this lighting upgrade, the Queensway Tunnel will be closed for the duration of this weekend.
It will close from 9pm today (Friday, October 13) until 6.30am on Monday, October 16.
The Kingsway Tunnel (Wallasey) will remain fully open.
Merseytravel have advised to allow extra time for your journey where necessary.
