A WOMAN has avoided jail after stabbing the host of a birthday party she was at with his own kitchen knife.

Jade Bray admitted stabbing her victim through the right forearm with the knife she grabbed from a block in his kitchen.

He was trying to break up a fight between Bray and a second female victim when he received the wound.

The blade went right through his arm, leaving a 3cm entry wound on one side, and a 1cm exit wound on the other.

At a hearing at Chester Crown Court on Monday, October 2, the mother-of-four, of Ford Court, Winsford, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful wounding, one of attempted unlawful wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Prosecuting, Karl Scholz told the court on February 27, 2022, the 32-year-old was at a birthday party guest at her male victim’s home in Winsford.

At 5am, a woman Bray knew but hadn’t seen for some years arrived.

The atmosphere instantly soured, and an argument broke out between the two women, who ‘squared-up to one another', breaking several glasses in the process.

Bray then grabbed her female victim by the hair, and the pair ended up struggling on the kitchen floor.

The host tried to separate them, but Bray grabbed a kitchen knife from a block on the counter and wielding it ‘with a thumping movement,’ which is when the host was stabbed through the arm.

Bray used such force the handle broke off the knife, and the blade was left sticking out of her victim’s arm.

She fled, but was arrested an hour later at her home.

In her police interview, she admitted she’d been drinking, but claimed she was the one who was attacked.

Defending, Eve Salter said: “The defendant shows genuine remorse for what she did, and now fully acknowledges her behaviour was unacceptable.

“She has interacted fully with the probation service and has taken steps to remain out of drink.”

“At no point has she sought to minimize her actions.”

Ms Salter explained Bray is a single mother caring for her four children, and suffers with anxiety and depression.

“In light of these factors, I ask the court to show mercy when sentencing,” she said.

His honour Judge Simon Berkson sentenced Bray to 18 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and 200 hours unpaid work.

She must also complete 20 rehabilitation activity days and pay a victim surcharge.

Judge Berkson said: “Is these circumstances, an immediate custodial sentence must be in the mind of the court.

“But in view of your responsibility for the welfare of four young children, I am willing to suspend it.”
