Jesse Lingard caught drink-driving in £200,000 Lamborghini

The former Manchester United player and England international – who grew up in Longford, Warrington – was fined a week’s wages at Manchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Thursday.

The court heard that the 30-year-old, who is without a club at present after leaving Nottingham Forest, was driving in Trafford on July 8.

Greater Manchester Police stopped his grey Lamborghini Urus on Manchester Road, with a roadside breath test conducted.

Former Beamont Community High School pupil Lingard produced a reading of 76 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath.

This is more than double the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres.

The defendant, who started out playing at Penketh United, was asked by district judge Joanne Hirst how much he earned.

As a result, Lingard was fined a week’s wages – £57,000 – as well as a £2,000 victim surcharge.

In addition, he was banned him from driving for 18-months, to run concurrently with an existing six-month ban.

Lingard said in a statement: “I want to acknowledge my mistake and publicly apologise for my unacceptable actions.

“I completely understand and accept the consequences of my mistake by putting the lives of others at risk.

“I am sorry to all my fans anyone who has followed and supported me throughout my career. I accept the sentence of the court and the fine.”

This sentence comes after Lingard was given a six-month driving ban in July after he admitted failing to provide details to identify the driver of his Range Rover caught speeding by police.

The court previously heard how his car was caught speeding in Stretford. Lingard received a letter from Greater Manchester Police asking for the drivers' details but failed to provide them.

His defence said he was not the driver of the speeding car but missed the letter telling him to provide the driver's details.

For that offence, he was also fined £900 and given six penalty points on his driving licence.
