INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing after a stabbing on a train at a Cheshire West station.

British Transport Police has provided an update following a reported stabbing on a train at Hartford Railway Station.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was later released on bail.

Police have now confirmed the man has been bailed until October, while the investigation continues.

CCTV enquiries are being conducted and officers have been speaking to witnesses who were on the train.

Anyone with information is still asked to get in touch with police.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to police would still be encouraged to contact us by texting 61016 quoting ref 408 of 28/07.”

BTP were called to Hartford station at around 4pm on Friday (July 28) amid reports that a man had been stabbed on a train travelling from Liverpool to Birmingham.

Cheshire Police officers also attended, with Chester Road closed for several hours.

The victim, a man in his 50s, received first aid assistance by paramedics from the North West Air Ambulance.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries “not thought to be life threatening”.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said at the time: "We were called at 4.05pm to respond to a police incident.

"An ambulance, advanced paramedic, a response vehicle and an air ambulance attended.

"One patient with serious injuries was airlifted to hospital, and another was taken by road."
