A MAJOR manufacturer on the outskirts of Ellesmere Port is to build nearly 600 new solar panels.

Urenco in Capenhurst Lane, Capenhurst, an international supplier of nuclear enrichment services and fuel cycle products, submitted an application to Cheshire West and Chester Council for the installation of 596 roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels.

The solar photovoltaic system would be positioned on the roof to the front and rear on the curved roof of the office building that forms the headquarters for the Urenco.

The applicants sought to determine whether prior permission was required, and if the external appearance of the development would have an impact of flare on the occupiers of neighbouring land.

A council planning officer determined that prior approval was not required, and: "the solar array is appropriate in relation to its surroundings and would not cause harm to this amenity of the area. It is not thought to cause harm by way of glare on the occupiers of the neighbouring land."
