A LUXURY Chester hotel is celebrating further award success after its Executive Chef was named ‘Chef of the Year’ at a local industry awards recognising the region’s top hospitality talent.

Elliot Hill, who fronts the culinary offering at The Chester Grosvenor nestled on the cobbled streets of Chester, received the accolade at the highly anticipated Cheshire Life Food and Drinks Award 2023, hosted by Carden Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort on July 24.

The awards seek to celebrate the talented individuals and teams behind the best restaurants in the area — with the winners selected based on votes from clients. Hosted by BBC presenter and Cheshire Life columnist, Beccy Wood, the evening was a collective celebration of yet another challenging year in hospitality.

Elliot came to The Chester Grosvenor with a wealth of experience having previously been Head Chef at Panoramic 34 in Liverpool. Since taking up his current post, he has helped launch Arkle, the hotel’s fine dining offering, which, since opening in March 2022, has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes, received an AA Notable Wine Award and been named in the Michelin Guide.

Elliot said: "I’m over the moon to win this award in a category full of tremendous chefs, it's truly humbling. Having grown up in Cheshire it just means the world, especially doing it at the helm of The Chester Grosvenor. However, the real plaudits should go to our team here — their passion, drive and talent keeps us all motivated to keep pushing and improving ourselves. I can’t wait for the coming years, not only to see where we get to with the hotel, but how many of our team go on to win similar awards."

Earlier this month, Elliot also claimed the ‘Chef of the Year Award’ at the Chester Hospitality Association (CHA) People Awards — where the judges recognised his high standards of culinary delivery and commitment to producing innovative food.

Elliot has also been instrumental to The Chester Grosvenor’s apprenticeship offering, with a handful of future talent having already passed through Arkle under his expert guidance — an achievement he is immensely proud of.

With its building dating back to 1865, The Chester Grosvenor is a mainstay of the city with two highly reputable restaurants. Both Arkle and its two AA Rosette counterpart La Brasserie reflect its style and quality and are a large component of its highly regarded guest experience.
