Derelict pub and town centre buildings back under offer

It suggests that a huge development is planned for the corner of Bridge Street and Mersey Street at Bridge Foot, Warrington, with graphics already drawn up showing the potential of the site.

The under-offer buildings in question total six on Bridge Street itself, including the former Packet House pub.

Signage stating that an offer had been made for the structures was erected in October, but these were removed earlier this year.

But they have gone up again on the exterior of the buildings, including the old pub which was loved by generations, but has since fallen into such disrepair over the past decade.

It was previously said that pub is now ‘dying of shame’.

Also under offer is Priory House on Mersey Street, meaning that if the offer on all is by the same source, a huge development could be in the works.

The buildings have a combined value of more than £1.5million, and are advertised looking for offers in excess of this amount.

Priory House itself is listed for offers in excess of £750,000, having previously sought bids of more than £1million, while offers above £250,000 are sought for Packet House.

Estate agent listings say all of the buildings could provide a ‘development opportunity’.

The former Packet House was one of Warrington's most popular drinking spots and was well-loved by everyone in Warrington until the last landlady Ethel Smith retired in 1976.

It then has numerous rebrands and relaunches since, including Tiger Tiger and Bar Zero, but closed in the early 2000s.

In January, designs appeared showing a new vison for the corner plot in the form of a 66-apartment block over six floors, with commercial units on the ground floor – all subject to planning permission being obtained.
