OH what a night!

The atmosphere was electric at the Chester Standard and Ellesmere Port Standard's first ever Education Awards, held in the city.

Primary School Teacher of the Year

At the special ceremony the Standard honoured those primary school teachers who work hard to ensure that children across Cheshire West have the best start in education.

The awards night, which took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Friday, July 7, celebrated the hard work of all those in education who put their skills and expertise into helping children succeed in their studies. We can now reveal our winners for the Primary School Teacher of the Year.

This was a very strong category and it was not easy to pick a winner with plenty of nominations received from across Cheshire West.

Our runners-up for Primary School Teacher of the Year were:

Amanda Fox from Cherry Grove Primary in Chester.

Kim Carpenter from Dee Point Primary in Blacon.

The Standard Primary School Teacher of the Year is:

Dan Snowden from Parklands Community Primary and Nursery in Ellesmere Port.

Dan said: "I'm lost for words. You don't come into this profession to seek any form of extrinsic gratitude or anything like that but winning is a really proud moment in my career.

"Turning up every morning knowing that you're making a difference to kids lives, that's the reason why you get into the job in the first place. Spending day in day out with children and knowing that impact that you're having, not many jobs give you that.

Discussing how his class would feel to have the Primary School Teacher of the Year teaching them, Dan added: "I'd like to think that [my classes] are proud of what I've achieved but at the end of the day, as long as they're happy to have me turn up and teach them every morning, that's enough for me."

Dan is the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator for Parklands Primary and teaches both Year 4 and Year 5 classes.

The school is located in Little Sutton and caters for children from nursery age through to Year 6.
