A MAN has been jailed after he admitted defrauding a family out of thousands of pounds of their inheritance money.

Jack Reece, aged 48 and of Prince of Wales Avenue, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday for sentence after previously pleading guilty to two counts of fraud, one of theft and one of providing false information.

The first fraud charge relates to Reece claiming he was the son of the late David Hughes and intending to gain a life insurance policy to the value of £3,495.34 - between January 19, 2020 and February 5, 2020.

The other fraud charge relates to Reece saying he was entitled to transfer £835 in bank funds from an account held by Mr Hughes to his own bank account on January 27, 2020.

Reece also pleaded guilty to claiming he was the step-son, registering the death of David Hughes, at Flintshire Registrar Office on January 28, 2020.

The theft charge relates to the defendant stealing a £500 motor car belonging to Mr Hughes between the period of January 19, 2020 and February 19, 2020.

At his sentencing hearing on Thursday, he received an overall jail term of 27 months.
