FIREFIGHTERS are this morning still at the scene of a massive barn fire in Cheshire West after battling it through the night.
Crews, from Lymm, Stockton Heath, Runcorn and Northwich, were called to the scene in Barber's Lane, Antrobus, just after 9pm on Thursday (June 15).
On arrival, it was discovered a large quantity of hay bales within the barn were well alight.
Firefighters split the incident into sectors to manage the blaze and used a main jet to fight the flames. Adjacent diesel tanks were also being kept cool.
Nearby residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed as the fire produced a lot of smoke.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed two crews remain on scene this morning.
He added: "Firefighters surrounded the fire and cooled adjacent diesel tanks.
"By 12.30am crews had made progress tackling the fire and the number of fire engines was reduced to three, but they were on scene through the night.
"At 7.15am, resources at the incident were reduced to two fire engines.
"Crews continue to cool the diesel tank and nearby structures while the remaining hay is monitored using thermal imaging cameras."
