TWO sheep stranded on the bank of a ship canal led to a major emergency services response.

One fire engine from Ellesmere Port, one fire engine from Runcorn, one fire engine from Knutsford, two fire engines and one Aerial Ladder Platform from Chester, and one fire engine and Water Incident Unit from Powey Lane were called.

The incident occurred in Ince at about 1.50pm today (Tuesday, June 13).

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to rescue two sheep stranded on rocks on the bank of the Manchester Ship Canal.

"Crews used a boat to transport the sheep back to their herd safely."
