A POST on social media from a PhD student at the University of Chester has charmed thousands after he made reference to a common practice in British pubs.

David Escobedo, who is originally from Los Angeles, often shares his experiences of idiosyncrasies he has come across as an American based in the UK, and his latest analysis of a common pub gesture was loved by those on both Tik Tok and Twitter. In a short Tik Tok video shot whilst walking around the city, he discusses how he has seen many British people buy a packet of crisps in a pub before tearing open the packet "like a little plate" and offer the snack to their friends.

In the video, David said: "In the United States, at least in Los Angeles, it's pretty uncommon to eat at bars in general, unless it's a bar and restaurant, but something I think is interesting is the community action of ripping open the bag of crisps, which there usually is not that many crisps, and sharing it with everyone.

"So to me it's a really kind gesture because it's like 'I don't have a lot, I am munchie, but I'm going to share what I have with everyone here'."

David goes on to say that he enjoys the "communal" aspect of the gesture which he says is "very different".

The video had already become popular on Tik Tok, with nearly 6,000 people 'liking' the post and over 300 people commenting on his analysis. Many commenters said that the video had highlighted a practice that they took for granted or had never really thought about, others coined the phrase "pub salad" in recognition of David's observations.

The clip was also picked up by author Nooruddean Choudry - owner of popular Twitter page: Nooruddean - who showed it to followers on Twitter with the video receiving thousands more likes and hundreds more comments.
