A POPULAR pub in the centre of Chester has recently been named as the city's Pub of the Year 2023.

City Road venue The Cellar has added to its two previous gongs - in 2014 and 2015 - with a third Pub of the Year Award from the Chester & South Clwyd Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch.

A multi award-winning establishment, The Cellar has also been part of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide every year for the last decade.

Taking to social media to announce the victory, The Cellar said: "Incredibly grateful and proud to have won the CAMRA Pub of the Year award this year.

"As long as people keep wanting excellent beers, we'll keep providing them.

"Thanks to all involved."

The pub is built to offer a variety of beers with five hand pumps which dispense alternating guest cask beers, with Timothy Taylor Landlord the only regular. There is also up to eight craft keg beers available as well as craft beers in bottles and cans from around the world.

The Cellar serves five ciders, having won Cider Pub of the Year in 2017 and North West Cider Pub of the Year in 2022. The Cellar currently lists 39 different drinks suppliers in all, with 13 from overseas.

It also offers cheese boards, charcuterie platters, mezze and pizzas to accompany your drink of choice.
