A SALTNEY pub's reopening has been welcomed by regulars and hailed a success by its new team.

We visited the Brewery Arms pub in Chester Road during its re-opening on Friday to have a look around following its major £160k revamp.
Landlord Warren Kelly told us: "Compared to what it was, it's fantastic. it looks like a completely different pub.

"Everything has been replaced; from fixtures and fittings, carpets and decorations to the TVs.

"Everyone is amazed its the same pub. The beer garden and the fact we can get live games on have been a big hit."

This is Mr Kelly's first time running a pub, having previously owned a scaffolding company.

Speaking of his reasons for the career change, the 37-year-old explained: "This pub was the heart of the community for a long time.

"Over recent years it's been let go slightly and we were potentially at risk of losing it.

"It was important to me to keep it open. We want to reinstate the pub as a hub of the community - somewhere the whole community can get involved and we can do all kinds of fundraising and charity work."

He said: "My dad and grandad drank here. It has a nice atmosphere with good people.

"I'm made up it's open again.

"I've played dominoes, darts, pool - everything here."

Asked about his best memory from the decades he's been a regular, the 66-year-old said: "Lots of laughs with decent people."

Proper Pubs regional manager Derrick Cooper said: "It's been very busy already, and the feedback from customers has been fantastic which makes it even better.

"It's been a real transformation but we have kept the heart of the pub."
