POLICE have confirmed the age and gender of a person who died on the railway yesterday morning, Tuesday.
Severe disruption was experienced for rail users passing through Warrington following the incident at Bank Quay station.
It was confirmed at the time by British Transport Police that the incident was a death on the tracks.
In an update this morning, Wednesday, the force has released further details in that the person was a man in his 40s.
Northern, Transport for Wales and Avanti West Coast services were cancelled and delayed between Frodsham and Earlestown for several hours as a result of the emergency incident.
A spokesman for British Transport Police yesterday said: “Officers were called to Warrington Bank Quay station at 10.29am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A Northern travel notice states: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Chester and Manchester Victoria, all lines are blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.”
