A COLLISION on the M56 motorway has resulted in miles of tailbacks this afternoon (Thursday, June 1).

The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 14 (Chester Services/Helsby) and Junction 12 (Runcorn).

Traffic is said to have been queuing and one lane was closed while the highways team was deployed to the incident.

Vehicles involved in the collision have since been moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes have been reopened, but there are reported delays of 45 minutes and six miles of congestion, with queues stretching back beyond Junction 15 (M53 Interchange).
