A SECONDARY school in Ellesmere Port has set up a new initiative to give all students the chance to feel "beautiful" on Prom day.

For many students, Prom is the biggest event of final year, before moving onto sixth form or college.

The Whitby High School, on Sycamore Drive, has announced that they are collecting new and used dresses from the public, to gift to students in their school who are attending Prom this year.

In a social media post, the school said: "For many of our students, the expenses associated with attending the Prom are more than they can afford.

"By donating your new or used dress, you will assist a student in attending this milestone event and help them look and feel beautiful and confident."

All sizes and styles are welcome, and the school will be collecting dresses for the next couple of weeks.

Assistant Headteacher Mrs K Rimmer said: "The Whitby High School are constantly looking at ways to support parents with financial concerns. Through our PACE programme we offer students the opportunity to help organise and attend our end of Year 11 Prom.

"We are also conscious that many Prom dresses are only used once and our aim as a school is to be more sustainable in aspects of our community. We have asked for the school and wider community to support our students to attend by donating barely worn Prom dresses. We have had an incredible response to this and we will now have a stock of stunning dresses to offer to students.

"A huge thank you to those people who have donated and in particular Dorothy Rose Bridal shop who has offered the school some brand new dresses."
