EMPTY offices in Cheshire look set to be converted into living space.

Proposals have been given the green light to create apartments within Spencer House, on Dewhurst Road next to Birchwood Shopping Centre, Birchwood.

It comes after an application was submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department for a change of use of part of the building to form 20 dwellings.

External alterations have also been given the go-ahead at ground and first floor level, including the demolition of the existing boiler room and tower.

Approval has also been given for the erection of a refuse and cycle store and the installation of barrier across car park.

According to applicant Sheet Anchor Evolve London Ltd, the site comprises 4,685 square-metres of office space across two floors.

Despite current occupiers of the wider building being NHS Property Services, Warrington Primary Care and Bridgewater Community Healthcare Trust, Spencer House is around 60 per cent vacant.

Approval has been given to change of use of part of the ground and first floor from office to residential use.

The proposals comprise of 20 units, four of which would be studio flats, while 11 would be one-bedroom apartments to accommodate two people.

There will be two two-bed flats for three people and two two-bed flats for four people, as well as one three-bed flat to accommodate six people.

Permission has also been granted to create two residential entrances and 20 cycle parking spaces, with the building also offering around 100 parking spaces.
