A CHESHIRE family-run local business is inviting people to see spectacular live glassblowing demonstrations next month.

E+M Glass, based near Malpas, has announced an ‘Open Studio’ event at its studio gallery in Tallarn Green on Saturday, April 29. This is the first of its kind post-Covid and will feature free live glassblowing demonstrations that can usually only be seen at special events.

The studio gallery has been newly renovated at the beginning of the year. To celebrate this, they are offering a number of discounted lines being available to purchase from the company’s extensive and unique collection of artisan glass.

Their live glassblowing demonstrations will be given throughout the day by one of the studio’s glassblowers, Charlie Burke, alongside exhibits from other skilled local Cheshire makers including a ceramic artist and painter.

Refreshments will be available, and the studio’s doors will be open to members of the public between 10am and 4pm, with no pre-booking or registration required – simply turn up on the day and enjoy the experience.

The glassblowing company’s last ‘Open Studio’ event was hosted pre-Covid and attracted 100s of guests from the local area who jumped at the chance to marvel at this local business and its talent, as well as the lines available on sale.

Amelia Burke, studio manager at E+M Glass, said: “We’re so excited to open our doors to the public and give them a chance to see what we’re all about again. The furnaces are all fired up (and so are we!) ready for lots of live demonstrations. We find that guests absolutely love them and usually can’t see this kind of thing every day.”

All of the handmade glassware, including a selection of discounted lines will be available to purchase and take away on the day, including bespoke artisan items from E&M Glass’ Doodle range, Country Scenes and original artworks.

The local company, founded in the 1980s by Ed and Margaret Burke, has been operating near Malpas but supplying its glassware all over the world to big names including Fortnum and Masons and Four Seasons Hotels.

Alongside the products it produces, Amelia and her husband Charlie have been offering glassblowing courses for curious locals and those who come to stay from further afield for several years. Both with a BA (Hons) degree in glassware-related courses, the couple also have their works featured in galleries, exhibitions and commission bespoke pieces for private clients.

No pre-registration is required to attend E&M Glass’ event, which will run from 10am-4pm on Saturday, April 29. The studio is located on Tallarn Green, SY14 7LN. For any enquiries, contact info@emglass.co.uk.
