A CHESTER Retail Park store is closing down.
Signs promoting a 'closing down' sale have been placed at the Sports Direct shop in the retail park, with the sportswear shop expected to close for the final time next month.
The news comes as the retailer announced it is planning to focus on opening more larger stores under its 'elevation strategy', with some of the smaller branches potentially closing.
Frasers Group managing director of Sport, Ger Wright, told the Retail Gazette: "We will be closing the smaller stores. Anything between 10,000 sq ft and 20,000 sq ft will most likely go and then we’ll open a bigger store."
In the last few weeks, Sports Direct opened one such 'flagship' 50,000 sq ft store at Manchester's Arndale Centre.
The Sports Direct store in Chester's Grosvenor Shopping Centre remains open.
