A CHESTER care home is celebrating a Good report from inspectors.

Oaklands Nursing Home in Littleton, run by Conifers Care Homes Ltd, recently had inspectors from the Care Quality Commission, and was judged to be Good in all sectors – safe, responsive, effective, caring and well-led.

The report noted 46 older residents were residents at the time of the inspection, and said: “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

"There were systems to identify when people needed safeguarding, and staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe. Staff received regular training and supervision.

"People were supported to maintain their health and well-being. They were encouraged to maintain a balanced diet, and their nutritional needs were met. The environment was adapted to meet people's needs, and staff supported people to access health services where needed."

CQC inspectors noted that all steps taken to improve the service from its previous rating of 'Requires Improvement' had been successfully made, which allowed them to uplift the overall rating to Good.

'An incredible job'

Comments since the publication of the report have included: "The home has improved so much since the increased involvement from the directors and since Beth [Trinidad], the registered manager, has been here", "Beth is always willing to listen and help", and "Big change since the last inspection – yes, it's better."

Claudia Godinez, a staff member, said: "It is amazing to work for Oaklands Nursing Home; I have never felt so appreciated by any other company before; they really go above and beyond not only for the residents, but also for the staff members, creating wonderful teamwork.

"We are such a happy family doing our very best for everyone at Oaklands Nursing Home and it has been noticed by our recent rating”.

Director Vidhi van Manen added: "Oaklands has been with our family since 1991, steeped in experience and known for its friendly, warm atmosphere, kind staff and beautiful gardens.

"The team have done an incredible job coming out of Covid, and we all have felt the improvements.

"Having this now recognised by the CQC is just wonderful, and we will continue to strive for excellent quality of care whilst retaining the homely atmosphere that makes Oaklands so unique."

In celebration of the rating and to thank each team member for their contributions to the result, each full-time and part-time team member will receive a certificate for their contribution, and a party will be held in the home in appreciation of their hard work at a CQC celebration party.
