CHESTER’S oldest charity is on the lookout for extra support to help guide where help is needed in the city.

The Chester Bluecoat Charity helps the disadvantaged and people living in poverty in the Chester area and is looking for trustees who are passionate about making an impact in the city and empowering people.

Based in the historic Bluecoat building, at the heart of Chester on Upper Northgate Street, the charity strives to change the lives of people in need in three distinct ways; grant giving, rents affordable office space and meeting rooms to the third sector and provides almshouse accommodation to people in need.

Neil Davies, chair of the trustee board, said: “The trustees of The Chester Bluecoat Charity play a vital role in the charity by steering it forward, shaping its values and direction. We have a varied trustee board with a range of backgrounds in different sectors and everyone brings their different experiences and viewpoints to the board table.

“No experience on a Board of Trustees is required as we will provide full support, including training.

"I know there is a lot of passion in Chester to do good, so if this is you, why not join our team of trustees who strive to make positive, lasting change in the city?”

The Board of Trustees provides governance and leadership, overseeing the strategic direction of the charity in line with its mission, objectives and the law.

The Board has openings for professionals from all backgrounds who want to support their vital work and help the charity reach its full potential.

Tim Mann is retiring in 2023 after nearly a decade on the trustee board, including chairing the Grant Giving Committee. He added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as well as deriving great satisfaction from the work we are able to do.

"I have been able to use my previous work experience to help in the work of the charity, especially with tackling challenges such as the Covid pandemic. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to get involved as a volunteer trustee and make an important contribution to improving the lives of people in Chester.”

The Chester Bluecoat Charity awarded more than £240,000 to local good causes in 2022, including KidsBank, Chester Zoo and Blacon Beacon, and is hoping to make an even bigger impact in 2023 as the cost of living crisis continues.
